Installing the Windows Internet Explorer
and Cite While You Write Plug-in
Installing the Internet Explorer and Cite While
You Write plug-in on Windows will allow you
to use direct export in Internet Explorer,
Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge.
If you are using EndNote basic, the
online-only version of EndNote,
it will also allow you to install Cite While
You Write commands for Microsoft Word.
When logged into your online library,
click the Downloads tab.
Click the Download Windows with Internet
Explorer plug-in link to install immediately,
or click Download Windows MSI to download
an installer that can be used
on multiple computers.
For this example, I will use the MSI installer.
After downloading, open the folder
holding the downloaded file
and double-click the EndNotePlugins.msi file.
The Searching for installed
applications message will be shown.
The installer may take some time
to find all installed applications.
When searching has finished,
click the Next button in the window
showing the applications found.
Enter your name and company
information, and click Next.
Unless told otherwise by
your school or institution,
choose the Default option and click Next.
If you are using EndNote on the desktop,
set the Cite While You Write option
to Entire feature will be unavailable.
EndNote desktop already includes the Cite
While You Write tools for EndNote online.
If you are using only EndNote basic, you
need to install the Cite While You Write tools,
so leave the option as it was.
Click Next again.
When the installation has finished, click Finish.
Open Microsoft Word.
Click the EndNote tab on the ribbon.
Enter your EndNote basic account information.
If working on your own computer, mark the
box to Remember my address and password
so you do not need to enter them in the future.
Click the OK button.
You are now ready to begin using
your online library in Word.
